YouTube confirmed today that you will now be able to download video clips – for a small fee.
In a blog post, YouTube writes, “partners could choose to offer their video downloads for free or for a small fee paid through Google Checkout. Partners can set prices and decide which license they want to attach to the downloaded video files.”
As a first step, YouTube is featuring several video downloads from various universities, while several popular YouTube channels are testing paid downloads.
Will this new service put YouTube in competition with iTunes?
Even more importantly, why does YouTube think that anyone would pay PER download when you can just use VideoPiggy to download unlimited video clips?
