Foxmarks is one of the most useful add-ons for Firefox that exists today. Now, Foxmarks is changing its name to Xmarks.
Not only does the tool help you synchronize all of your bookmarks and passwords between multiple instances of Firefox on different computers, but now it also uses this massive amount of user-generated data to create a site suggestion service, almost like StumbleUpon.
As you visit a website, you can simply click the Xmarks icon in the address bar to find more information about that site – in addition to the top 5 similar sites.
Xmarks can also now be integrated with Google search. You will see an information icon next to the search results, and when you hover on it, you will get some basic information about the site.
To their credit, the new features are not mandatory and can be easily turned off if you don’t like them. You don’t even have to uninstall Foxmarks before installing Xmarks:
“You can install Xmarks even if you have the Foxmarks add-on installed on your computer. Xmarks will upgrade your current Foxmarks add-on and continue to sync and back up your bookmarks (and optionally passwords).”
Give it a whirl and let us know what you think of the new features. You can get Xmarks here.
