WWE has suspended one of its Superstars for denigrating the Brazilian flag.
At a live event in Brazil last night, Chris Jericho reportedly crumpled up a Brazilian flag that had found its way into the ring before a match against WWE Champion CM Punk.
Jericho then kicked the flag and cut a typical heel promo.
Desecrating the national flag is a crime in Brazil.
Local law enforcement stepped in and stopped the match, giving Jericho an opportunity to apologize to those in attendance or face incarceration. The former World Champion expressed his regret to the crowd and the WWE Live Event continued.
Due to his actions, WWE officials suspended Jericho indefinitely.
“It was a bad move,” Jericho said. “I did it with [our] fans’ entertainment in mind and I’ll accept the consequences for that.”
“I made a bad judgment call in the course of entertaining. I apologized to the people in the crowd for showing disrespect.”
