A Tunisian woman is pregnant with 12 babies, it was announced on Monday night.
The unnamed mother-to-be, an instructor in her thirties, is currently expecting six boys and six girls.
The father, identified only as Marwan, is behind his wife 100 percent. He stated: “In the beginning we thought that my wife would give birth to twins. “But more foetuses were discovered. Our joy increased with the growing number.”
The woman turned to fertility treatments after suffering multiple miscarriages.
British fertility experts say that there is less than a 1-in-100 chance of even one of the babies surviving, although it was possible for 12 to be conceived.
Carrying all twelve babies to term does have its risks. The nine babies born to the current record-holder, an Australian mother back in 1971, died in Sydney.
