In a serious case of grandparenting failure, one Florida grandmother has been sentenced to 14 months of house arrest for leaving two of her grandchildren in a parked car while she hit the slot machines.
The 54-year-old woman also received three years’ probation.
Police report that the woman left the children in a car parked outside of a Hallandale Beach casino in August of 2008. The woman left the windows down, but had not turned on the air-conditioning.
Fortunately, someone noticed the 2-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy sitting in the car and alerted casino security.
The prosecutor now reports that the woman pleaded guilty to charges, including felony child abuse and misdemeanor contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
