Nine women who had been duped into believing that they were reality show competitors and lured into a villa in Istanbul were freed by Turkish authorities after two months of captivity.

Video cameras taped the women’s actions 24 hours per day, offering streaming video to internet users who paid to view the feed, according to a police spokesperson.

The Turkish women had all responded to an advertisement seeking contestants for a “Big Brother“-type reality program. They passed their “auditions” and were chosen to stay in the house.

“The women’s parents called the police after they didn’t hear anything from them. The military police went to investigate and heard the women screaming from inside,” the spokesperson said.

Police have taken three men into custody and prosecutors are investigating further.

Apparently, the women signed a contract agreeing that they would have no contact with their families and would face a fine of 50,000 Turkish lira if they left the house early.
