Last week, we talked about the world’s oldest Twitter user. Now, we’ve learned that the world’s oldest blogger died on Wednesday.
Maria Amelia Lopez was a Spanish grandmother who became an Internet sensation after dubbing herself the “world’s oldest blogger.” She was 97 years old.
Ms. Lopez started blogging from her home in Galicia in 2007. Immediately, she gained a huge following with her lighthearted mix blend of commentary and nostalgia.
Her grandson established the blog for her as a gift on her 95th birthday.
“On December 23rd 2006, my grandson gave me a present, this blog when I was 95 years old … and my life changed … now, I can communicate and interact with the world.”
Why, she even had Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero drop by for a chat one time.
In one of her final posts back in February, she wrote:
“When I’m on the Internet, I forget about my illness. The distraction is good for you — being able to communicate with people. It wakes up the brain, and gives you great strength.”
Her family left a posthumous post, thanking readers for their support.
