Sam Raimi
Sam Raimi has officially signed on to direct the movie Warcraft, a big-screen version of the rabidly popular online game World of Warcraft.
Raimi will oversee the development of the new live-action film and he’ll likely begin shooting after he wraps up Spider-Man 4, which should start production early next year.
Sam Raimi, who most recently directed “Drag Me to Hell“, said of the Warcraft movie, “At its core, ‘Warcraft’ is a fantastic, action-packed story.”
Besides directing the flick, Raimi will also act as producer along with Charles Roven, Alex Gartner, Jon Jashni, Thomas Tull and Joshua Donen.
Warcraft has been under development for several years. Legendary Pictures and Blizzard Entertainment, publisher of the World of Warcraft video game, have been working on getting the project to the silver screen for quite a long time. Producer Thomas Tull previously stated that the studio is shooting for a PG-13 rating for the film.
Adapted from World of Warcraft, the Warcraft movie would take place about a year before the events in the game. Warner Bros. is aiming for a 2011 release.
