A Chicago zoo is being sued by a woman who fell near a dolphin exhibit back in 2008. She claims that zookeepers encouraged the dolphins to splash water and then did nothing to protect audience members from wet surfaces.
In a lawsuit filed last week, Allecyn Edwards states that she was injured while walking near the dolphin exhibit at Brookfield Zoo where a dolphin show was taking place.
Officials “recklessly and willfully trained and encouraged the dolphins to throw water at the spectators in the stands, making the floor wet and slippery,” but didn’t put up any warning signs or lay down any protective mats.
Edwards is suing for more than $50,000 for her lost income, medical expenses and “emotional trauma” from the Chicago Zoological Society, which runs the zoo in Chicago’s southwest suburbs.
The suit was filed in Illinois’ Circuit Court of Cook County.
Edwards also plans to sue the zoo because she caught a cold after visiting the “freezing cold” penguin exhibit. OK, we made that last part up.
