Wisconsin RecallResident of Wisconsin looking to oust Republican Gov. Scott Walker were out and about last night delivering recall petitions.

United Wisconsin, the coalition leading the effort, delivered to the Government Accountability Board petitions containing more than a million signatures aimed at recalling Walker.  They far exceeded the 540,000 signatures needed, said Graeme Zielinski, spokesman for the state Democratic Party.

Residents there are upset over Walker’s cost-cutting initiatives during his first year in office, which included ending collective-bargaining rights for nearly all public workers.

Zielinski said yesterday that 845,000 signatures had also been submitted to recall Republican Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, and that more than the required number of signatures had been delivered to force recall elections of four Republican state senators, including Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald.

“It’s like the (Green Bay) Packers winning the division,” cautioned Tom Sieber, past chairman of the Brown County Democratic Party in northeast Wisconsin. “It was a great feeling to win the division, but there’s a larger goal at hand.”

Walker said in a statement yesterday that he expects Wisconsin voters “will stand with me.”
