Why do I feel like I'm looking at a Coke display?
Hmm, there's Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Cherry Coke, Cherry Coke Zero, Vanilla Coke, Vanilla Coke Zero, Diet Coke with Lime, Diet Coke with Lemon (we call this "Pledge" Coke at our house as that's what it tastes like), Diet Coke with Splenda, Caffeine Free Coke, Caffeine Free Diet Coke, Coca Cola Blak, and Coke C2.
Um, you know what? I really just want a Coke.
Hey, Microsoft - I also just want Windows 7. I'm not even really sure what comes with Windows 7 Super Ultra Remix Deluxe, but I really just want Windows 7.
Do you think we can do that? I just walk into the store, go to the "PC" section, and grab a Windows 7. That's really what I want to be able to do.
It’s hard not to agree with Microsoft Watch’s Joe Wilcox when he says “Six Sevens is Five Too Many.”
The workaround sounds simple, and it is: just offer one version. Call it "Windows 7". I know, I know, catchy isn't it?
Maybe we could just have "Home" and "Professional"? Is that too much to ask?
Windows 7 definitely needs better public reaction than Vista received (yes, I said it, PC Guy, 'Vista', 'Vista', 'Vista'). If I get "Debug Assertion Failed" followed by a browser crash in mid blog-post one more time, I'll end up in a clock tower taking people out.
There is simply no way having 31 flavors of Windows 7 can possibly help.
As Wilcox notes, if you count the 32-bit and 64-bit versions, there are actually eleven different versions of Windows. FAIL!
