F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You

Serena Williams couldn't believe her eyes. She fell to her knees and threw back her head. It's been six years since she was able to hold the ironically named Venus Rosewater Dish.

Yes, Serena Williams defeated her sister Venus 7-6 (3), 6-2 on Independence Day for her third title and her 11th Grand Slam championship.

"It feels so amazing," Serena said. "I'm so blessed. I feel like I shouldn't be holding the trophy. I can't believe I'm holding it. It's named for Venus and she always wins."

Serena earned the victory by out-serving Venus and elevating her game in the tiebreaker, winning when five-time champion Venus jammed a backhand right into the net on the fourth match point.

Serena beat Venus back in the 2002 and 2003 tournament, before Venus emerged victorious in 2008. Venus would have been the first woman since Steffi Graf in 1991 - 1993 to win Wimbledon in three consecutive years.

The celebrations after the match were relatively tame. The Williams sisters< met at the net and hugger, with the 29-year-old Venus giving 27-year-old Serena a pat on the back.
