William Shatner Turns 80: A Video Tribute (VIDEOS)

William Shatner is now an octogenarian.  Yes, Captain James T. Kirk has boldly gone into another decade, turning 80 years old today.

After beginning his career as a classically-trained Shakespearean actor, Shatner later opted for a career in Hollywood in the late 1950s and went on to win the part that defined a generation…as Captain James T. Kirk in Gene Roddenberry‘s TV series Star Trek.

When the series ended in 1969, he reprised his role as Captain Kirk in seven Star Trek films.  He’s also continued his acting career on the small screen, winning a Golden Globe and an Emmy for playing Denny Crane on Boston Legal.

Earlier this month, Shatner recorded a special message for the crew of the Space Shuttle Discovery, backed by the famous Star Trek theme song, this new message mimicked the original series’ opening credits.
