You can say a lot of things about Chris Rock, but you can’t ever say that he doesn’t speak his mind.
The comedian finds himself awash in controversy today after blasting out a tweet on the Fourth of July, implying that the holiday is for white people only:
“Happy white peoples independence day the slaves weren’t free but I’m sure they enjoyed fireworks.”
Other comedians and actors seemed to be able to see the humor in the joke, but others – not so much.
Conservative blogger Jeff Schreiber tried to give Rock a brief history lesson:
“Slavery existed for 2000yrs before America. We eradicated it in 100yrs. We now have a black POTUS. #GoF–kYourself.”
Blogger David Burge got in a nice retort was well:
“Good one! I bet your Guatemalan house staff got a good chuckle.”
What do you think? Was Chris Rock’s Independence Day tweet all in good fun, or did it go too far?
