Let the debating begin. President Barack Obama will speak to the media this morning (Wednesday) regarding the controversy surrounding his birth certificate.
Today, White House press secretary Jay Carney handed out copies of Obama’s “long form”, showing that the president was indeed born in Hawaii. Previously, only the president’s “short form” certificate had been made available, leading to many conspiracy theories claiming that Obama, who recently announced that he plans to run for reelection, wasn’t born in the U.S. and is therefore ineligible to be president.
The issue has dragged on endlessly, despite evidence showing that Obama was born in the state of Hawaii. Even recent public opinion polls have shown that many Americans can’t be sure where the president was actually born. Business tycoon and reality TV star Donald Trump has been very vocal about his doubts regarding Obama’s place of birth lately, although that could be due to the fact that he may be planning to run for president as well.
A new “bombshell” book due out on May 17 also claims that it will blow the lid off the whole Obama birth certificate debate.
The Constitution of the United States mandates that the president be a natural born citizen in order to hold the office.
Obama supporters will likely claim that this ends the debate once and for all, while “birthers” will likely be out to attack this new “long form” certificates authenticity.
