Rivers Cuomo, lead singer of the band Weezer, was injured in a bus crash on Sunday that left both him and another passenger in a New York hospital.

Cuomo, 40, was sleeping in the back when the accident occurred.  He cracked three ribs and was temporarily trapped until firefighters showed up with the Jaws of Life and extracted him from the vehicle. Cuomo’s wife and 2-year-old daughter were also on board the bus but suffered no injuries.  Cuomo’s assistant, Sarah, fractured two ribs and a lower vertebrae.

Cuomo is still in the hospital for observation and the rest of Weezer’s December tour dates have been canceled.

The bus was heading from Toronto to Boston for a show on Monday night at the Agganis Arena at Boston University.

The bus crash happened just after 7:30 a.m. on Sunday morning while the bus was going eastbound on the New York State Thruway near the city of Amsterdam.

The back end of the bus slid on ice then skidded into the median and hit some reflective posts before crossing back over the highway, going over the guardrail and landing in a ditch.
