Venezuela has banned the sale of Coke Zero, citing health risks. Coke Zero is a diet soft drink made by the Coca-Cola Company and was just introduced in that country in April.

Coke Zero responded via press release stating that the drink “doesn’t have any components that can be harmful to people’s health” while agreeing to halt production of the drink in Venezuela.

Jesus Mantilla, Venezuela’s health minister, said on Wednesday that after government officials inspected Coca-Cola’s operations they ruled that Coke Zero could present potential health risks.

“The product should be withdrawn from circulation to protect the health of Venezuelans,” Mantilla said.

Really, this is just the latest in a long line of steps taken against Coca-Cola by the Venezuelan government. A group of former employees caused intermittent stoppages in bottling and distribution plants last year, hampering the company’s operations.
