Normally, once the Associated Press reports on a story, you can pretty much be sure that it's true. Not this time.
On December 29, we took an AP story and ran with it when reporting that Van Morrison had a baby boy with partner and manager Gigi Lee. The AP says it relied on info from the singer's publicist and from his official website when reporting (in error) on the story.
Morrison has now come forward and said, through his Dublin PR company, that the story was a hoax and "utterly without foundation" and created by a hacker. Morrison says he is still "very happily married" to former Miss Ireland Michelle Rocca. The couple has two children together, ages 3 and 2.
Today, Morrison's Hollywood publicist, Phil Lobel, stated that the earlier announcement of the birth was based on information from the Irish singer's hacked website and that "all those with Van Morrison regret any confusion this may have caused."
Van Morrison's website has apparently been hacked at least twice in the last few months. Time to tighten up security over there, perhaps, eh Van Morrison?
