Valley Meats of Coal Valley, Illinois, in conjunction with the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection service have issued a ground beef recall of about 96,000 pounds of E. Coli tainted meat.
The ground beef recall involves meat that has “EST. 5712″ in the USDA mark on the package. The (2-1), (3-1), (4-1), (5-1) and (6-1) markings refer to the number of portions per pound. Also, the ground beef was produced on March 10.
The E. Coli problem broke out in Ohio, where a number of people became ill. So far, E. Coli cases have been confirmed in Ohio, Illinois and Pennsylvania.
E. Coli symptoms of infection include bloody diarrhea, dehydration and possibly even kidney failure.
