Jamaican runner Usain Bolt set a new world record in the 100-mmeter while also obtaining his first world championship. Usain Bolt’s time of 9.58 seconds establishes him as the first human being to run the event in less than 9.60 seconds. He is also the only runner to ever run it in less than 9.70 seconds.

Tyson Gay set a new American world record, getting the silver medal with a recorded time of 9.71 seconds, the third fastest time in history behind, of course, Usain Bolt’s two world records.
