UPDATE: Urban Meyer has instead decided to take an indefinite "leave of absence" from coaching.

UPDATE 2: Hear the dramatic 911 call here.

Florida coach Urban Meyer has shocked the sports world.

Just one day after the Gators were defeated in the SEC Championship game, Meyer went to Gainesville hospital for "dehydration." He was released very quickly and no one thought anything of it at the time.

Now, however, that event may go down in Florida history as the end of an era.  Jeremy Foley, Florida athletics director, issued a release on Saturday stating that Meyer is going to step down:

"I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program.  I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family."

Meyer will hold an official press conference on Sunday.  He will also stick around to coach the Gators against Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl on January 1st, then throw in the towel.

In the past, Meyer has dealt with severe pain from a brain cyst, but isn't facing any immediate known health issues.

It seems as thought he's simply had enough...for now anyway.
