If you’ve been following the preachings of Family Radio founder Harold Camping, you know that he claims that this Saturday, May 21, 2011 will be Judgment Day, the day God’s chosen people will be snatched up to heaven in “The Rapture”.
Some have mistakenly taken this to mean that Camping thinks the world will end on May 21, 2011 (including ourselves).
Not true, according to the latest updates from Family Radio.
They claim that Judgment Day will indeed take place on Saturday, with earthquakes and natural disasters galore, but they say the world will actually come to an end five months later, on October 21, 2011.
So, in theory, those that are taken up in “The Rapture” are instantly saved while those that are “left behind” will have to endure devastation of Biblical proportions within the next five months or so.
In fact, here is the historical timeline of events, as seen on the eBibleFellowship website:
TIMING OF IMPORTANT EVENTS IN HISTORY
11,013 BC—Creation. God created the world and man (Adam and Eve).
4990 BC—The flood of Noah’s day. All perished in a worldwide flood. Only Noah, his wife, and his 3 sons and their wives survived in the ark (6023 years from creation).
7 BC—The year Jesus Christ was born (11,006 years from creation).
33 AD—The year Jesus Christ was crucified and the church age began (11,045 years from creation; 5023 calendar years from the flood).
1988 AD—This year ended the church age and began the great tribulation period of 23 years (13,000 years from creation).
1994 AD—On September 7th, the first 2300-day period of the great tribulation came to an end and the latter rain began, commencing God’s plan to save a great multitude of people outside of the churches (13,006 years from creation).
2011 AD—On May 21st, Judgment Day will begin and the rapture (the taking up into heaven of God’s elect people) will occur at the end of the 23-year great tribulation. On October 21st, the world will be destroyed by fire (7000 years from the flood; 13,023 years from creation).
I’ll be the first to admit, at first I was very skeptical of these claims. It seems like just about once a year that someone comes along and claims that we should all “Repent! The end is near!”
There is something about this prophecy that disturbs me, however. That something is Comet Elenin, which is said to have been discovered in December of last year by Russian scientist Leonid Elenin.
When we last talked about Comet Elenin here, we discussed the fact that Harold Camping could be wrong and that this object could actually threaten Earth in October, not in May.
I’ll show you. You might want to sit down for this.
Some scientists have begun to speculate that Comet Elenin is not a comet at all, but a brown dwarf, which is why it’s so hard to see right now even though it’s sitting just beyond Mars.
A brown dwarf is basically a failed star about the size of a large planet with a gravitational pull that could be several times that of Jupiter’s.
Well, that’s easy enough to shoot down, isn’t it? If Comet Elenin had a massive gravitational pull, we should already be seeing some of its effects.
Let’s head over to NASA.gov (http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=C/2010%20X1) and take a closer look at “Comet X1″ (Comet Elenin). Click on the link that says “show orbit diagram” and let the fun begin.
Let’s scroll back the date and take a look at February 27, 2010…
Interesting. Comet Elenin, the Earth, and the Sun were all in alignment that day. Would a routine comet affect Earth at this point? Probably not.
Unfortunately, that was the day of the massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake in Chile.
OK, maybe we can chalk that up to coincidence. Let’s see what happened about a year later when Earth, Comet Elenin, and the Sun were in alignment once again, on March 11, 2011…
As you may recall, March 11 was the date of that massive 9.0-magnitude earthquake in Japan.
Here’s a handy little chart to help you track recent and future alignments with Elenin.
Well, let’s see where Comet Elenin will be on October 21, 2011, the day Harold Camping says the world will end…
Coincidence? We haven’t even talked about the alignments coming up at the end of September and toward mid-November.
But wait, if a massive brown dwarf were headed this way, wouldn’t we already be seeing some signs of nature freaking out? One could speculate that we’d probably begin to see Earth’s electromagnetic field go a little crazy. That would probably have an effect on animals who use this field for navigation.
If something like that were headed this way, wouldn’t NASA be on top of it? It’s hard to say as the NASA Buzzroom was recently shut down. I’m sure they’re just trying to improve its functionality so that the lively debate surrounding Comet Elenin can resume. It’s also too bad that NASA is shutting down the space shuttle program this summer. I would think we still have a lot of discovering left to do, but NASA feels that this is a good time to end the program.
Once again, I’d like to remind you that I’m not a scientist, nor am I a Biblical scholar. I’m just a guy who’s seeing the “prophecies”, seeing the science that may be behind them, and putting two and two together. I’d sure love to be wrong.
I must not be the only one questioning these things because a Colorado woman has been spending her own money putting up signs about Judgment Day. Robert Fitzpatrick in New York also spent his entire $140,000 life savings putting up signs about May 21st. In fact, he’s written his own book about the end of the world (“The Doomsday Code“), and his theories seem to agree with Harold Camping’s.
Draw your own conclusion. What do YOU think? Are we truly now living in the end times or is this just another conspiracy theory from a guy in a tinfoil hat?
UPDATE: See the newly discovered document below, a 10-page White House letter outlining protocols for certain “Near Earth Objects” (NEOs). Interestingly enough, this was written just two months prior to the “discovery” of Comet Elenin…
