Tyler Clementi

For the second time in less than a week, we’re writing about a gay student who killed themselves after being publicly outed. Rutgers student Tyler Clementi wrote a goodbye note on Facebook just before jumping from the George Washington Bridge after his roommate secretly taped him with another man in his dorm room and posted it to on the internet.

UPDATE: Finally, something is being done.  Learn about the It Gets Better Project here.

Paul Mainardi, the attorney representing the student’s family, released a statement confirming Clementi’s suicide.

“Tyler was a fine young man, and a distinguished musician. The family is heartbroken beyond words. They respectfully request that they be given time to grieve their great loss and that their privacy at this painful time be respected by all,” Mainardi said.

Clementi posted on his Facebook page: “Jumping off the gw bridge sorry.”

Items belonging to 18-year-old were found by the George Washington Bridge last week.

Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei now each face charges of invasion of privacy. The pair evidently uploaded a video of Clementi with a another on September 19th. A Facebook page remembering the student was created by some friends, many of whom also graduated with him from Ridgewood High School in New Jersey.

These kinds of bullying incidents are happening all too often.  Just the other day we wrote about 13-year-old Asher Brown, who shot himself in the head due to bullying regarding his sexual orientation, among other things.

You can see photos of Dharun and Molly below, along with the tweet Dharun posted about the incident before deleting his Twitter account.  Below that is a video from a neighbor who has spoken out about Tyler’s death.
