We all have those moments when we just can't find the right domain name. Then, you finally think of one - only to find out that it's already taken.
Here are two tools that we love to use to come up with a great domain name:
1) Bust A Name
Bust A Name is my favorite domain name tool. The service allows you to type in words that are relevant to your search, then presents all of the available combinations that are available to be registered. You can sort the results by length, by readability, by syllables, or alphabetically.
You can also ask it to return only cetain TLD's (like .com only), add hyphens, or drop the last vowel (ie: Flickr).
You can even have it place a prefix or suffix before or after the words in your search (ie: iTwitterBlog, eTwitterBlog, TwitterBlogster, etc).
2) Domize
Domize is another great domain name tool. It’s an very simple service. Simply start typing in any word or phrase. The system then comes up with domains based on that name or shorter versions. It will then show you whether or not those suggestions are available on popular TLD's (.com, .net. org, .biz, .info, and .us).
Recently, Domize took things to the next level with "Power Search", a highly sophisticated command-based search system lets you use brackets to add variables to your search terms.
Say you want to create a blog on Twitter. You will probably want to use words like Tweet, Twit or blog. Instead of having to check each combination individually, you can now just type the terms in brackets and do it all at once.
For example, a search for “[twitter, tweet, twi]blog” shows you domain name info for twitterblog, tweetblog, and twiblog on multiple TLD's.
Power Search also includes some other powerful commands:
[vwl] - Test a domain name with the 5 English vowels, i.e. bl[vwl]g would display domain name results for both blog and blug.
[alpha] - Tests every letter in the English alphabet
[color] - Places in the name of common colors
[digit] - Displays results with numerical digits 0-9
[ending] - Searches results with some of the most common English word endings (i.e. er, ster).
[verb] - Searches common verbs
Domize’s Power Search also packs a "bulk" feature loads, searches, and checks domain names from lists on any website. This gives you the ability to check a long list of domain name ideas and check availability all at once. Domize now also includes a starring feature that allows users to save domain names for future reference with a single click.
Putting these two tools to work for you all but ensures that you will find the perfect domain name for your new project.
