Twitter is testing out a format that puts "search" in the spotlight. According to a new post on the Twitter blog, a search box will now appear for a select group of testers in the upper right hand side of their home pages.
The select few testers will even get a "Trends" drop down, which will display the hot items people are currently tweeting about.
Twitter does note that only those users that have made their tweets public will have their results included in Twitter search results (I guess they want to avoid a Facebook-like fiasco). They mention that 90 percent of their users make their updates available to the public. This means that an enormous database of data is now searchable. It can also be potentially monetized at some point.
A full search launch is expected soon.
