Within the past few days, tech companies have just been killing themselves off one by one, as far as we’re concerned.
First, Facebook dished out the straw that broke the camel’s back by having one of its execs seemingly throw her weight around by threatening to delete pages. This, after so much fail whaling with their TOS debacle, you would think they would learn.
Now, Twitter execs clearly don’t even know what’s going on within their own company.
First, they said they removed the @reply function because it was too confusing. Then, they said they did it because of a technical issue and they couldn’t restore it even if they wanted to.
Now, inexplicably, they have restored it – but only partially.
From the Twitter blog:
“Here’s what we’re planning to do. First, we’re making a change such that any updates beginning with @username (that are not explicitly created by clicking on the reply icon) will be seen by everyone following that account. This will bring back some serendipity and discovery and we can do this very soon.
Second, we’ve started designing a new feature which will give folks far more control over what they see from the accounts they follow. This will be a per-user setting and it will take a bit longer to put together but not too long and we’re already working on it. Thanks for all the great feedback and thanks for helping us discover what’s important!”
Twitter, what the hell are you doing? Perhaps if you round up some more capital, you can buy yourselves a clue.
So, now that Twitter is dead, next big thing please?
