Hurricane Earl is not even upon us yet here on the East Coast, and already there is another storm to keep an eye on. Tropical Storm Gaston has formed in the Atlantic Ocean.
Tropical Storm Gaston becomes the seventh named storm of the 2010 hurricane season, and it’s the fourth tropical storm in the past 11 days.
As of this evening, the center of Tropical Storm Gaston was located near latitude 12.9 north, longitude 37.0 west.
Gaston is moving toward the west at speeds of about 15 mph. A west or west-northwest motion with a significant decrease in forward speed is anticipated over the course of the next several days.
Tropical Storm Gaston currently packs maximum sustained winds of around 40 mph, with higher gusts. Slow strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours.
Tropical storm force winds currently extend outward up to 70 miles from the center of the storm.
There are no hazards affecting land at this point.
