Earlier in the week, we reported that Tropical Storm Danny could possibly form in the Atlantic. Now, it’s official.
The National Hurricane Center has confirmed that Tropical Storm Danny did, in fact, develop on Wednesday just to the east of the Bahamas. The storm was producing winds near 45 miles per hour as of 11am EDT (1500 GMT) and the system is expected to morph into this season’s second hurricane later this week.
Tropical storms typically have winds of over 39 mph and reach hurricane strength once sustained winds hit 74 mph.
Thus far, many forecast predictions show Tropical Storm Danny staying to the east of the U.S. and away from Gulf Coast oil and gas production.
AccuWeather.com, however, reports that the system could affect the East Coast late Friday into the weekend.
