Police no longer care about there public image. Some police belong in jail themselves. They abuse there power and are corrupt. Alot of them beat there wife's and children and get away with it. the whole process needs an overhall. corrupt DA'a, Judges, and police. a citizens of this country we are at there mercy! Do not call the police unless absolutely necessary. They will screw you over!

this cop is an absolute butthole and was out to bust someone's chops. the ambulance staff should have played along and raised the issue through the proper channel, but the cop should be suspended to think about how he could have done a better job to serve the public.

Balck people are so funny, no wonder so many are comediens. Momma's dying in the back of the ambulance but we gotta go get our video phones. If your worried about your mom get her off the ambulance (That clearly wasn't running lights, and didn't yeild to an emergency vehicle that wa was), and take her to the hospital. What if the ambulance was running hot with lights and siren and the cop car was in the way without lights and never yeilded. There's always two sides.
But lack people still crack me up!!!

You sound like perhaps you were in law enforcement, either in the past or presently. Either way, thanks for chiming in. I agree, at first glance, this looks like a total failure on the part of the police officer, BUT, we can't tell from the video whether or not the ambulance's lights were flashing. We don't know whether the patient inside was having a heart attack, or perhaps just had an upset stomach. There are too many variables to point fingers prematurely. Of course, as a blogger, we want to write headlines that will grab eyes. Still, something has GOT be done about officers who charge into a situation while the adrenaline is still pumping. There simply HAS to be a way to encourage "de-escalation" so that the adrenaline has a chance to exit the body BEFORE these situations get out of control.

Same thing. De-escalation is the only way these types of incidents can be prevented...plain and simple.

First off if you watch the video from the officer's video, the video shows the officer was code 3 (lights and sirens) enroute to back up another officer. The ambulance was not running any code and did not move out of the way of the officer until he started to pass the ambulance. The ambulance paramedic who stated he was in charge stated the officer came up on them real quick. If he saw the unit coming up quick, then he also saw the lights and since they were not running code had to hear the sirens. He should have made his driver move over way before the officer tried to pass. Then another mistake was the paramedic in charge should have stayed with his patient. Instead he came out to argue with the officer instead of letting the DRIVER of the ambulance talk to him. If the driver would have had a chance to talk to the officer the whole thing would not have gotten out of hand. The other mistake was that the Paramedic in charge let his emotions get out of hand and obstructed the duties of the officer. I know it could have been bad but if the patient was critical and needed to get to the hospital, then why didn't the paramedic stay with her and let the driver explain what was going on. The officer's attitude was judge by the scene but he just cleared an officer assist call and his adrenaline was still going and the initial actions of the driver and the attitude of the paramedic escalated the whole thing. Everybody was at fault, even the family that got in the way by screaming at the officer. One more is that if you view cuts of the video instead of the whole footage then your opinion is shortened. Cell phone videos doesn't usually capture footage of what has already happened but what the second outcome is. It like if you get hit by somebody and you hit them back you usually get caught and not them. You weren't there so you have an opinion but judging is wrong because you wren't there.

I think this Trooper was a complete idiot and should apologize to all , loose his badge, and get sued from all parties involved he let his badge give him a big head and he abused his positin to much. The only thing to say is his pants got to big for him idiot.

The main thing I find hard to believe is that the officer was responding to an “assist an officer” call. If so, that should have been his #1 priority as another officer was in trouble and needed assistance. At the time, an officer would not know the extent of the other officer's trouble and his life may have been in danger, That is why it is a #1 priority. But this officer used poor judgment in deciding that stopping the ambulance was more important. His second mistake was in deciding that no one was going to flip him off! His 3rd mistake was in ignoring the EMT's pleading that he had a patient in the back. His 4th mistake was in getting into a physical altercation with the EMT. He definately needs remedial training and an anger management class and should be suspended without pay while he takes the classes. There are too many cops in the headlines lately for using poor judgment!

People become cops for one of two reasons….either they really just want to help people and make a difference or they got beat up in high school. Any guesses why this guy became a cop? This guy gives cops a bad image and should be ashamed of himself.

I AGREE…MY BROTHER WAS AN OFFICER FOR 21 YEARS..HE ALSO HAD COMMON SENCE….NOW DAYS SO MANY SO CALLED POLICE OFFICERS DON'T HAVE ANY OR IF THEY DO THEY DON'T USE IT…..AMBULANCE SHOULD COME BEFORE POLICE CARS…WERE DO THEY GET THESE PEOPLE???THEY DO NOT BELONG OUT TO DEAL WITH PEOPLE…..

Is it just me, or does the officer sound really racist? Calling the EMT (an adult black man) “Son.” I live in the Northwest and I forget what it is like down south. Sad. That officer was on a power trip and should be punished in some way. I wonder what became of this incident?

I can't believe the stupidity of some police officers. I have great respect for police officers but this particular police officer deserves NO respect. He said that he is an emergency vehicle and that the ambulance should have pulled over! WHAT in the world does he think the AMBULANCE is for God's sake! It is officers like this that should be religated to desk jobs and never interact with people!!! I am really starting to believe what I have heard about what types of people are hired to be police officers…I have heard that only stupid people are hired because if they hired smart officers then they would question their orders and not follow them. PLEASE take stupid officers like this one off the streets and find them other jobs…possibly ditch diggers or street sweepers!!!
