Trista Joy Lathern Faked Cancer for Breast Implant MoneyA 24-year-old woman from Texas has been arrested on charges of deception after she allegedly tricked her friends into paying for her breast implants.

Trista Joy Lathern reportedly told her family and friends that she had breast cancer. She raised raised about $10,000 at a benefit, saying that she needed the money for her chemotherapy treatment. She even went so far as to shave her head to support her claim.

Court documents show that Lathern might have been trying to get the implants to salvage her seven-month marriage. Lathern's husband, however, filed for an annulment on the day she was taken into custody. He will be seeking custody of their two children.

A spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen Foundation in Waco, Texas said she hopes Lathern's story will encourage people to closely investigate the causes to which they give money:

"Maybe this incident will be a red flag so they will do a little more investigating to see where their money and support are going to. It broke my heart when I read about [Lathern]. It made me upset that someone would go to such extremes when all that money could have helped someone who really needed it."
