One of the highlights of the Michael Jackson memorial service was the performance of the Jackson hit "I'll Be There" by Mariah Carey.
From the very first note, Carey, wearing a black, glittery dress, made it apparent that this would be a more restrained rendition of the song. Singing through her emotions, Mariah Carey was quite emotional throughout the song's opening moments.

Her partner on the 1992 cover, Trey Lorenz, then came on stage and sang with her, heightening the performance's gospel undertones. Lorenz, one could argue, displayed even more vocal dynamics than Carey.
