annie leAnnie Le, a Yale graduate student, officially died of traumatic asphyxiation due to neck compression, according to the Connecticut chief medical examiner on Wednesday.

Annie Le’s dead body was discovered on Sunday in a Yale research building just five days after her disappearance.

Raymond Clark III (who is now a “person of interest” in the case) left the police department located in New Haven at about 3 a.m. EDT on Wednesday, just hours after authorities took him into custody.

“We took him into custody to gather evidence from his body and his person,” said Police Chief James Lewis at a news conference.

New Haven police spokesperson Joe Avery stated that Clark was turned over to his lawyer Wednesday morning after he complied with requests for samples of his DNA. Avery also mentioned that Clark free to come and go as he pleases at this point.

“We’re committed to proceeding appropriately with the authorities with whom we are in regular communication,” said Clark’s attorney, David H. Dworski.

The New Haven public defender is also consulting on this case.
