Let this be a lesson to you. I actually HAD this idea about two years ago, or to be more accurate, my wife had the idea.
Now, there are several websites offering this service.
If you got some unwanted gift cards this holiday season, sites like Plastic Jungle, Swapagift and Cardavenue let users buy, trade or even sell their gift cards.
You can buy gift cards, many at a discount (around 8 – 15%) from private sellers or from the site itself. Or you can trade them like baseball cards with others. Some sites allow you to set a declining value as each day passes or give buyers the option to make an offer at any price. As an alternative, you can also sell your card to other in the marketplace to others or just sell it to the site itself. Registration is free, but buying and selling from other users will costs a small fee, depending on the site.
Plastic Jungle provides users with two options for selling cards, a cash amount or a higher amount in the form of an Amazon.com gift card. Because Amazon has so many retailers and offerings, users who can’t trade their cards might be persuaded. Swapagift and Cardavenue don’t offer Amazon cards. Out of the three sites, Plastic Jungle is the easiest to navigate and browse, and it doesn’t require user registration to peruse listings for card trades and sales.
