It’s finally happened.
If you recall, after Toys R Us purchased the Toys.com domain name for over $5 million, they then proceeded to simply redirect the domain to the main ToysRUs.com website, thereby wasting that domain’s Google ranking.
Now, it looks like Toys.com has been de-indexed by Google.
The value of Toys R Us’ purchase has been reduced to just type-in traffic and possibly some inbound link juice to Toys.com.
Toys R Us could have simply placed specific 301 forwards on certain pages of the Toys.com website to enhance its long tail product search. We recently did that here when Monty’s Mega Marketing became Blippitt.com.
It also had the opportunity to capture 3 of the top 4 slots on Google for the search term “toys”, but that opportunity has now been wasted.
This company clearly needs a little help when it comes to handling its domain names. It owns the typo ToyRUs.com but it doesn’t resolve or forward to the main website at all.
That typo alone gets 60,000 hits per month. Let’s hope these guys come around and get their domain names in order.
