That’s exactly the incredible story of Mason the dog, a terrier mix in Alabama.
He crawled home on two broken legs following a deadly tornado outbreak on April 27th. He was hiding in the family garage when the storm picked him up and took him away.
His owners couldn’t find him and had just about given up.
When they returned home about 2-1/2 weeks later to assess the damage, Mason was waiting for him.
They then turned him over to the shelter as they were too busy getting their lives back in order to take care of Mason.
YouTube commenters seem to be outraged:
“this is why humans suck – dog crawls back to them on two broken legs, and they just hand him over to the shelter? and I bet they’re ‘good conservative Christians’ too!”
“poor doggy…..there’s no way I would hand my dog over to a shelter. My dog would be the number one priority…we can sort out the house and all the rest of the mess later. I think they just didn’t want to pay to have his treatment done! He manages to crawl home with 2 broken legs and the owners say….oh we are too busy to care for him? Well….he’s better off without them I say!”
“if my dog ever crawled back with broken legs after a tornado he’d be [eating] like a king for the rest his life, he [shouldn't] be sitting around a damn shelter”
Fortunately, a generous donor to the Vulcan Park Animal Care clinic paid to have Mason fixed up.
What do YOU think? Should the owners have turned the dog over to a shelter after crawling home on two broken legs?
UPDATE: According to the VPAC website, Mason will be returning home to his family after recovering from surgery.
“Monday 11:15 A.M. ———-I just got word from the animal control officer on Masons case that he will be returning to his family after his recovery. It is great news that he will be able to reunite after such a difficult journey home.”
