Tommy Jordan, Dad Who Shot Daughter's Laptop, Gets Visit from Child Protective Services

Remember Tommy Jordan, that North Carolina dad who shot up his daughter’s laptop after she trash-talked him on Facebook?

The video of Tommy responding to his daughter’s Facebook post went viral, and many saw him as an example of parenting done right.

The authorities, however, weren’t quite as sure.

Jordan wrote on his Facebook page that he got a visit from Child Protective Services after his video went viral.

The former Marine wrote that CPS officials came to his home in Albemarle and interviewed him and his 15-year-old daughter Hannah separately after receiving several calls from a few concerned viewers of the video. The police also stopped by for a chat.

Neither the officers nor Child Protective Services took any action against him, Jordan said.

“The police by the way said ‘Kudos, sir,’” Jordan wrote. “How’s about those apples? Didn’t expect THAT when you called the cops did you?”

Jordan had been living with his daughter Hannah for just over six months before posting his video in response to her Facebook rant called “To My Parents”, which he discovered when he updated her laptop for her.

The video had more than 14 million hits by late yesterday (watch the video of dad shooting the laptop here).

Jordan and his wife live about five hours from Jordan’s ex-wife (Hannah’s mother), Michelle Ambrose-Smith. Hannah lived with her mom and took extended trips to her dad’s home over the summer and during holidays.

In August, Jordan wrote on his blog that he missed his daughter so much that he asked her if she would like to live with him permanently…and that she had accepted.

“I wonder how many days before she’s screaming to go back to her mom’s?” he quipped in a blog post the day after Hannah moved in.

Ambrose-Smith isn’t talking about the incident and Jordan has posted that he was temporarily unplugging his phone, so there’s currently no way of knowing whether Hannah is thinking about returning to her mother’s house.
