Despite bitter cold temperatures that hovered right around zero and a nasty wind chill, around one million people assembled in Times Square to usher in the New Year by witnessing the ever-popular Ball Drop first-hand.
On top of that, an estimated 100 million viewers tuned in to witness the spectacle on TV.
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg flipped the switch that would initiate the 60-second countdown on the 11,875-pound ball made out of 2,068 Waterford crystals and an amazing 32,256 LEDs.
