As if Tiger Woods needs any more bad news right now. Woods’ Canadian doctor is currently under criminal investigation for illegal drug violations in the U.S. and Canada.
Dr. Tony Galea was placed under arrest back in October and his clinic, which is located in Toronto, was raided by Canadian authorities after he was found to be in possession of illegal drugs at the U.S. border.
Those drugs included Human Growth Hormone (HGH) and Actovegin, a drug made from calf’s blood that has been banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency.
Earlier this year, Galea had been under scrutiny for a controversial treatment he performed on Tiger Woods. He flew to Woods’ home in Florida, at his agents’ request, to give him platelet-rich plasma injection therapy, a procedure that’s been dubbed “blood spinning”. Blood spinning is basically the process of spinning blood in a centrifuge and then reinjecting that blood into injured joints in the hopes that it will accelerate the healing process.
Charges against Galea should be filed in Canada on Friday. He’s currently being investigated for smuggling and selling illegal drugs as well as criminal conspiracy.
The FBI is also investigating Galea in the U.S., where he is suspected of giving performance-enhancing drugs to athletes.
Galea’s attorney maintains that he is innocent.
