Every once in a while, Google posts about something that just makes me wonder what the heck goes on over at the Googleplex. This week is no exception.
It seems that, when the Googlers aren’t busy coming up with all those air-tight ways to prevent spam, they like to build things. They recently had an off-site conference and I guess the heated conversations about how to avoid losing a big bid to Microsoft stressed them all out a little.
So they decided to build a giant Google logo out of Bloxes, which are basically interlocking cardboard boxes, kind of like giant Legos that connected on all six sides.
They were actually invented one Googler’s father, Jef Raskin (who started the Macintosh project at Apple), and were originally intended to be used to build flexible workspaces (like easily morphable cubicles). Having seen some samples of what could be built with them, they thought it would be fun to order a bunch of Bloxes for the team to build things out of while sitting around chatting and brainstorming (hey, always good to cut costs in these harsh economic times).
So, not having any larger issues to worry about, the result was a giant Google logo, made out of Bloxes. That’s Google for you…always thinking outside of the blox…
