Yesterday afternoon, the White House held a special “Stakeholder Meeting with Physicians” as part of the debate over healthcare policy in the U.S. What made this event especially interesting is that it was held via live Facebook chat.
The White House broadcast the whole event live via Facebook, while also allowing the use of a chat-type environment where users could interact. Those messages then became status updates that were sent to your Facebook friends.
President Obama has been on the cutting edge of technology ever since taking office. The White House bills this move as being about citizen involvement…”an aide from the White House Office of Health Reform will also be keeping track of the chat and letting the participants in the meeting know what people are talking about.”
The White House says that we can expect “similar events in the future.”
