Finally! Finally, The Rock has returned to the WWE after 7 long years. It complete and utter pandemonium last night when the announcement was made that The Rock (A.K.A. Dwayne Johnson) will be the “guest host” for WrestleMania 27 on April 3, 2011.
It was one of the most electrifying moments in sports entertainment history as ring announcer Justin Roberts gave a quick introduction, but didn’t finish his sentence. Then, the lights slowly went out in Miami.
A series of lights flashed across the TitanTron as loud explosions popped through the sound system. It quickly became apparent where this was heading.
Finally, those three familiar words blasted over the public address system…”IF YA SMELLLLLLL!….”
Cue the loudest crowd pop I have ever heard in my many years of watching pro wrestling.
The Rock went on to announce that not only would he be the guest host at WrestleMania XXVII, but that he was back and that this time he would “never go away again.”
He then proceeded to demean commentator Michael Cole, completely ignore the anonymous Monday Night RAW General Manager, and even hurl a few insults at another crowd favorite, John Cena. Could there be a heel turn in Cena’s future? Is the PG era over? The Rock threw quite a few choice words in his barbs.
The craziness went on for quite a while, as RAW wound up going a whopping 20 minutes over, ending at 11:20 p.m.EST. I’m sure the folks at the USA network didn’t mind as the ratings will likely be off the charts.
It was one of the greatest moments I’ve ever had the pleasure of watching in all my years as a wrestling fan.

P.S. – It looks like almost a given now that those 2-21-11 promos are hyping the return of The Undertaker, unless it’s another swerve like last night, when a pair of female legs exited from the limo, leading us to wonder if it was a woman that would host WrestleMania. We’ll see…
