(NOTE: For those who actually remember the skit referenced in the title of this post, scroll down to view one of the funniest SNL skits of all time, IMHO)
Who has Time Magazine named as the most influential person in the entire world? Barack Obama? The Pope? Richard Simmons?
No, the most influential person in the world is Christopher Poole (A.K.A. Moot), the founder of 4chan. The list is now official.
We discussed previously how4chan was attempting to game the top spot on this list.
Now, however, it looks like the first 21 results on Time's list are the result of an elaborate hack. Take a look...
If you take the first letter of each name, it spells out “Marblecake, also the game.” Marblecake was the name of the chatroom where Project Chanology was conceived (4chan’s anti-Scientology movement).
The hack was done with an auto-voting program spread on 4chan. Marblecake, by the way, is also a crude sexual reference.
This list represents the people’s choice, not the "official" list picked by Time’s editors.
Still, it's painfully obvious that Time Magazine's editors didn't keep a very close eye on this...or they just plain gave up.
As promised, here is that vintage SNL clip, "The Question Is Moot"...
