Google Penalty Ref Penalty FlagBlippitt is going through some changes. We’re going to be taking a short hiatus from posting while we reinvent ourselves.

It seems that the good folks over at Google believe our site contains too much “duplicate content.” In other words, we’re posting too many of the same news topics found all over the web (which is understandable given that we cover “viral news,” but that’s beside the point).

Google has hit us with what they call a manual penalty, meaning someone on Google’s spam team took a look at Blippitt and manually knocked down our search rankings.

That means much less traffic for us, which is kind of a bad thing when you’ve got bills to pay, kids to feed, etc.  Sure, there are other search engines our there, but let’s face it…Google is the 500-pound gorilla in the search world so we want to make them happy.

So, we’re taking a step back and figuring out what we want to do next with Blippitt.

Our most popular category by far is our “Viral Video” section, so we’ll probably relaunch as a viral video website.

It’s going to take some time, though, to sift through our thousands of posts and figure out what might be seen as “duplicate content,” so bear with us.

Rest assured, as Ah-nold would say…”We’ll be back!”
