Arkansas high school football player Thamail Morgan did the right thing. He showed leadership. He showed class.
What did Thamail Morgan do? The star player was inches away from returning a kickoff for a touchdown against Yellville-Summit. Thamail Morgan was about to stroll into the endzone for an easy score, but he did something different. Morgan stopped just before crossing the goal line, went back to the 5-yard line and took a knee.
Why did he choose to give up a touchdown? He did so out of respect for a grieving Yellville-Summit football team, who had just lost one of their key players in a tragic car accident.
On September 11, Kymball Duffy took four of his fellow teammates out for a pre-game meal. The truck crashed, killing Duffy instantly and injuring four of his teammates. One of those players is still in the hospital.
Yellville-Summit’s first game, an attempt to return to “normalcy” after the awful Kymball Duffy tragedy, was against Thamail Morgan’s Cave City team.
Cave City dominated throughout the entire game, managing a 34-16 lead. Instead of padding the score (and his own stats, which are always important to the national college scouts), Thamail Morgan decided to take a knee at the five-yard line to show respect for Yellville-Summit’s loss.
Thamail Morgan has had a dicey history. He transferred from Newport High School after being kicked off the football team for as-yet-undisclosed reasons.
Judging from what he did at Cave City’s game versus Yellville-Summit, it would appear that Thamail Morgan is a changed man.
