Terrence Reid, the Georgia firefighter who videotaped the horrific crash scene that included the mangled, dead body of Dayna Kempson Schacht, has been fired.
Reid had been under investigation ever since family members of the 23-year-old victim heard that the firefighter shared the video at a local bar. It was later shared by others and the video clip went viral.
“That Mr. Reid recklessly disregarded the humanity of Ms. Kempson-Schacht and the people he was obligated to serve is clear and obvious,” said Spalding County fire spokeswoman Virginia Martin in a statement on Friday. “Although it does not appear that Mr. Reid intended to cause harm with his actions, his egregious conduct has created grave negative feelings towards all Spalding County Firefighters and has eroded the public’s confidence in the department and in Spalding County.”
Reid was reportedly fired because he lied to his superiors about with whom he had shared the video.
“Lying will not be tolerated by the County from any of its employees and is grounds for Mr. Reid’s termination,” said Martin.
