Rorschach Blots: The Wikipedia Cheat Sheet?

Posted by Chris Monty in July 30th 2009

Psychologists are angry.  Perhaps they should talk to a psychologist.  Oh, wait.
Yes, psychologists are fuming that the standard 10-Rorschach-Blots test has been posted to Wikipedia.  To them, it’s as though someone posted the answers to next year’s SAT, according to the New York Times.
It’s all perfectly legal, however, as the Rorschach Blots test was created [...]

Wikipedia Bans and Boots Church of Scientology

Posted by Chris Monty in May 29th 2009

In what I consider to be a major “win” for Wikipedia, the site has banned contributions from any IP addresses owned by the Church of Scientology.
This decision by Wikipedia goes into effect immediately.
While Wikipedia has banned certain people in the past who have been a little indulgent with their edits, this is the first time [...]

Student’s Wikipedia Hoax Goes Global

Posted by Chris Monty in May 7th 2009

“One could say my life itself has been one long soundtrack. Music was my life, music brought me to life, and music is how I will be remembered long after I leave this life. When I die there will be a final waltz playing in my head, that only I can hear.”

Microsoft Kills Encarta, Teams up with MySpace

Posted by Chris Monty in March 31st 2009

Microsoft is getting ready to pull the plug on Encarta, the digital encyclopedia that debuted way back in 1993 to compete with Encyclopedia Britannica.
In doing so, Microsoft all but concedes that Wikipedia is the reference guide of the present and future.
Encarta expanded rapidly throughout the 90’s as it was much more popular that paper encyclopedias, [...]

See What’s Hot on Wikipedia with Wikirank

Posted by Chris Monty in March 26th 2009

There’s a nifty tool out there that you’re probably not using.
Wikirank is an analytical tool that tracks hot and up-and-coming topics on Wikipedia.  It does things like display the 10 most-read articles in the last thirty days and even lets you compare stats for up to four different topics.
Wikirank utilizes actual usage data from Wikipedia [...]

Paul Reiser Still Alive, Contrary to Wikipedia

Posted by ChrisMonty in January 3rd 2009

Paul Reiser, star of the former hit TV show Mad About You, had a brush with “death” this week…sort of. It was only a Wikipedia-style passing.
Multiple edits to Reiser’s Wikipedia page stated the following…
“On December 27th, 2008 Reiser was discovered dead in the Squallahassee River where he reportedly enjoyed fly fishing. No foul play [...]

Let’s face it.  The economy stinks.  Layoffs are running rampant, job losses just hit a 34-year high, and venture capital may soon be drying up.  What could possibly bring a smile to your face on this chilly Sunday morning.
