Microsoft to Layoff 5,000; Loses Nearly $500M in Q4

The grim economic outlook isn’t getting any better today.
Microsoft has announced that it will be lay off up to 5,000 people over the next 18 months.  This represents about 5 percent of their total workforce. Of that amount, 1,400 people will be losing their jobs today.

Google Dominates, Yahoo Gains Search Ad Share in Fourth Quarter of 2008

Efficient Frontier has just released a search engine ad share report for the 4th quarter of last year. They found that Google held onto its 76% market share while Yahoo actually gained 3%.

More Microsoft Layoff Rumors Abound

Google Is Still King of the Search Mountain

Google still reigns supreme, accounting for 71.97 percent of U.S. searches in the four weeks ending Nov. 29, 2008. Yahoo Search, MSN Search and Ask.com came in at 17.70 percent, 5.45 percent and 3.35 percent, respectively, according to Hitwise Search Engine Analysis Tool (via MarketingCharts).

Live Search Releases New Crawler: MSNBot/2.0b
