Tsunami Advisory in California, Dozens Dead in Samoa

The National Weather Service has issued a tsunami advisory for some coastal areas of California, including Santa Cruz County, following the 8.3 earthquake that struck American Samoa on Tuesday.
The advisory is really just a heads-up to mariners because the threat seems to be minimal. The tsunami size is being estimated in centimeters.

Massive 8.3 Earthquake Near Samoa Sparks 10 Foot Tsunami

UPDATE: A witness told Radio New Zealand that villages on the south-east coast of Samoa’s Upolu had been flattened by the earthquake and that police were moving people to higher ground.

Alaska Earthquake: 5.0 Rattles Anchorage

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake rattled buildings in Anchorage on Wednesday morning.
The earthquake occurred at 10:19am local time (2:19pm EDT)  Wednesday and was centered 31 miles west of Anchorage and 15 miles northeast of the village of Tyonek.

Baja California Earthquake Rattles Coast

An earthquake registering 6.9 on the Richter Scale shook Baja, California late Monday morning and could be felt in the San Diego area, prompting the evacuation of a downtown office tower.
