F My Life: It's Funny, It's True, Except When It Happens to You

swine flu patient zero Swine Flu Patient Zero Found in Mexico (Video)How did this whole Swine Flu mess begin anyway?  Now we know.

Five-year-old Edgar Hernandez has been identified as "patient zero" by his doctors.  Hernandez survived the first documented case of Swine Flu virus in an epidemic that now spans four continents.

Although this certainly was not his fault, Edgar’s mother, Maria del Carmen Hernandez, 34, is already facing abuse from locals:

“Some people are saying my boy is to blame for everyone else in the country getting sick. I don’t believe that. I don’t know what to think.”

Edgar's family resides in the village of La Gloria in the state of Veracruz.  A flu outbreak was reported there on April 2, 2009.  Officials arrived and took samples from the residents.

Edgar Hernandez was the only patient to test positive for the Swine Flu virus, everyone else had the common flu.  Health officials re-examined Edgar's sample only after incidents of the new Swine Flu virus came in from around the country.

The World Health Organization (WHO) now reports says at least 105 confirmed cases, including 64 in the U.S., 26 in Mexico, 6 in Canada, 3 in New Zealand, and two each in Spain, the United Kingdom and Israel.
