Swine Flu Death in Texas is First in United States

There has been a confirmed Swine Flu death in Texas.

A 23-month-old toddler became the first confirmed U.S. victim as officials worldwide attempt to contain a global health crisis.

"Even though we've been expecting this, it is very, very sad," Dr. Richard Besser, acting chief of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said on Wednesday. "As a pediatrician and a parent, my heart goes out to the family."

The Swine Flu virus in now present in Canada, Austria, New Zealand, Israel, Spain, Britain and Germany. Deaths reported so far have been limited to Mexico, and now the U.S.

There had been 66 infections in the United States prior to the toddler's death in Texas.

"We're working together at 100 miles an hour to get material that will be useful," Dr. Jesse Goodman of the FDA told The Associated Press.

The U.S. is preparing to ship out toeach state, not only anti-flu medication, but also masks, hospital supplies and flu test kits.

Amazon's Swine Flu Safety Kit has literally been flying off of shelves.

President Barack Obama has asked Congress for $1.5 billion to assist with fighting the Swine Flu virus and to help international efforts to avoid a full-fledged pandemic.
